How long have you been in existence?

Freelance Editing Services was founded in early 2007.

Why should I use your services?

If you search online, you will know that there are a large number of proofreaders and editors in the marketplace, all offering different types of services and prices; because the marketplace is so crowded, making the right choice can be difficult. We believe that what sets us apart are the quality and expertise of the services we provide. Where are you based?

We’re located in the spa town of Tunbridge Wells, just south of London.

Who will edit my work?

We have a small group of experienced, talented and vetted proofreaders and copy editors, specialising in several fields, and we will find the right one for your job. Additionally, all work is double checked by our Editorial Director before being sent back to you.

Can you say a bit more about your ethical stance?

We take ethics seriously. We couldn’t do this job without our freelancers so we show them respect and fairness. For our clients it means that we will never overcharge or upsell. Our office has a strict recycling policy, we use renewable resources and we give a portion of our profits to local and global charities. We don’t just say it, we do it, that’s why we give charities and local community groups a substantial discount – to help them keep giving back where it counts, but with perfectly worded literature!

Can I work for you?

What type of business are you?

We are a privately owned, limited company incorporated in England and Wales. We’re not a ‘clearing house’ or market place for editors or freelance projects; we’re a full service, professional editing business employing dedicated, vetted editors.

Who would benefit from your services?

Our services are aimed at writers, students, publishers and businesses that are looking for a
high quality, reliable, professional and expert editing service at an affordable price.

You mentioned an ‘enhanced’ proofreading service. What does that mean?

Proofreading normally means checking work for typos, spelling and punctuation; however, our service goes further and as standard we check layout (spacing, headings and fonts), spelling, grammar, typos and punctuation. We also do two thorough reads of your work to ensure there are no mistakes.

How do I know if I need proofreading or copy editing?

You can find out more on this page: ‘What is the difference between proofreading and copy editing?’; if you’re still not sure, send the work through to us, we’ll take a look and recommend the right level of service. Remember that our copy editing service also includes proofreading as standard (so you don’t need to pay separately to get your work copy edited and proofread).

What if I am not satisfied with the work you do for me?

In all the time we have been in business, we have never had a dissatisfied customer; however, if you had any issues with work we completed for you, we would work closely with you to resolve them to your satisfaction.

How long will it take to edit my work?

It depends on the project - the length of your document, the complexity/technicality of the work, whether you need proofreading, copy editing or something else, the style of your writing and a number of other factors. We would generally expect to spend around eight hours editing 7,000 words. We do provide a rush service on the quotes page, but if you need to have the work back by a certain time, let us know and we’ll work with you to meet your deadline.

Do you provide any specialist services?

Yes, in addition to proofreading and copy editing, we also carry out developmental editing, commissioning, research, localization and more. You can find out more on our editorial services pages.

publishing and business world, plus we provide services to writers, students and other

How do you accept payment?

We accept payment by PayPal, cheque or bank credit directly to our account. More details are available on the ‘make a payment’ page.

Do you do sample edits?

Yes, we’re happy to edit up to a thousand words to help you decide if we’re right for you.

Is there anything that you don’t do?

Although we do provide extensive editorial services, we make no claims to be able to do the following:

• Statements, facts, claims, conclusions and research: we don’t check the veracity of statements, facts or conclusions in your work, your research or your claims (although we will edit your work so that your statements, facts and claims are internally consistent)
• Copyright: while we can sometimes offer advice on when you might want to seek permission on copyright, we aren’t experts in this field and would recommend any copyright questions be directed to a professional legal service or your publisher
• References: while we will check the format and consistency of your references, we won’t read through referenced articles and documents to check their validity in supporting your work
• Theses and dissertations: we will not write or provide research to support writing theses and dissertations; we won’t paraphrase articles for use in coursework, theses or dissertations
